..tell the story
In 1954 Assuero Cairati and Rosa Grittini, already farmers,
they opened the first shop in Casterno, in via Monastero 19.
The son Giovanni, learned the work of "prestinè" (baker) in the workshop, first in Cassinetta and then in Abbiategrasso, he became the first baker at the age of 17: “Common bread, of semolina, of different types; we also made bread for the school canteens”.
In 1964 Giovanni took over the business and in 1972 transformed it into a convenience store introducing meat and other products; in 1980 fruits and vegetables were also added.
The meat and cured meats are of own production but the slaughtering takes place externally; the first prize in the livestock section at the San Maiolo Fair dates back to 2000.
Currently, four of Mr. Giovanni's six children: Veronica, Rosamaria, Lucia and Tato work in the shop; and together with Gianluca (chef of the Agriturism) and Albino (who takes care of the farm), are part of the company "Cascina Santa Marta".
